Saint Cecilia - Patroness of Music and Musicians

July 27, 2017

St. Cecilia was a young virginal girl whose marriage was arranged by others than herself and her husband. She expressed to him that she had taken a vow of virginity and so couldn't engage with him in the way that married couples are normally meant to.

She preached to many over her lifetime and was executed for her faithfulness to God and His ways. She miraculously survived suffocation and several beheading attempts, but eventually died from the severity of the attacks.

It was her closeness to God in prayer and fidelity to Him in her vow of virginity that had the beautiful sound of music emanate from her person. This is why she is given the honour of Patroness of Music and Musicians!

St. Cecilia, pray for us+.
